Olivia Oleander, Ooze Expert Journal Entry 374: Gelatinous Cube Mother
Warning: This entry details a gargantuan creature, about the height of a two story tall inn with the width of two horse drawn carriages. This ooze is the mother of all oozes, no pun intended. It has gone uncontested in its strength for a very long time. Those who have gone against it have summarily been dissolved, either by the mother itself or one of its potential offspring.
This creature is basically comprised of highly acidic gelatin, so using acid to try and hurt it does nothing. It can also move just as fast as you or I, so there’s not much chance of out-running it either.
The Gelatinous Cube Mother’s main form of feeding is to envelop its prey by flowing over and engulfing it. It then digests you, while your friends watch helplessly, able to see through the translucent ooze but unable to reach you without risking being swallowed up themselves.
If that wasn’t enough, as alluded to earlier the Cube Mother can also create offspring: regular gelatinous cubes whose health subtracts from their mother’s. Therefore, the more children it has, the more it’s spread thin. Unfortunately, we haven’t yet discovered a way to coax it to split so this cannot be exploited as a weakness.
Furthermore, because the Cube Mother is transparent, it may be difficult to spot unless it has swallowed something recently—A hungry cube may very well sneak up on an intrepid adventuring party. I advise all who seek this creature out to practice extreme caution. Or, better yet, don’t seek it out at all if you value your life. I mean it. This ooze does not mess around. I spoke to a severely burned young rogue who asked to remain anonymous. She was able to escape an encounter with one (the rest of her party wasn’t so lucky) and claimed its digestive process, while slow at first, had the ability to speed digestion up at will. Doing so didn’t hinder it’s attacking ability in any way. The Cube Mother was also able to spit projectile acid bombs some 50 to 60 feet away from itself as she was fleeing! It’s a wonder she made it to safety at all, and she said she will not be facing the ooze again, and cautions others against doing so.
Don’t end up as the Gelatinous Cube Mother’s dinner!
