Once the action is completed, the vanguard takes 5 (2d4) poison damage from the blood’s corruptive nature. The vanguard can’t use this ability again until it has completed a short or long rest.

When the vanguard is hit with a melee attack, it can use its reaction to make an attack of opportunity against the creature that attacked it. When attacking this way, the Vanguard does not increase the damage of the attack by its mod.
