Duergar
The duergar has advantage on saving throws against poison, spells, and illusions, as well as to resist being charmed or paralyzed.
While in sunlight, the duergar has disadvantage on attack rolls, as well as on Wisdom (Perception) checks that rely on sight.
Actions
For 1 minute, the duergar magically increases in size, along with anything it is wearing or carrying. While enlarged, the duergar is Large, doubles its damage dice on Strength-based weapon attacks (included in the attacks), and makes Strength checks and Strength saving throws with advantage. If the duergar lacks the room to become Large, it attains the maximum size possible in the space available.
The duergar magically turns invisible until it attacks, casts a spell, or uses its Enlarge, or until its concentration is broken, up to 1 hour (as if concentrating on a spell). Any equipment the duergar wears or carries is invisible with it.
Dwarves
“In the heart of towering mountains, amid veins of gem and ore, the stalwart Dwarves forge legacies, their spirits as unyielding as the stone they shape.”
Dwarves are renowned for their craftsmanship, resilience, and deep reverence for tradition and history.
Stones’ Kin. Stocky and strong, with a natural affinity for stone and metal, Dwarves exude a rugged durability. Their bearded visages, often marked with intricate braids and clasps, tell tales of age-old wisdom and fierce determination.
Masters of the Forge. Few can match the dwarven prowess in metallurgy and stonework. Their cities, carved into mountain hearts, stand as testaments to their unmatched architectural and crafting skills. Each dwarf-made artifact, from the simplest tool to the grandest weapon, is imbued with dedication and pride.
Guardians of Legacy. Deeply respectful of their lineage, Dwarves maintain vast chronicles, recording deeds and histories. Clan lineage and ancestral feats are often recounted with great fervor during grand feasts and ceremonies.
Steadfast Warriors. When roused to war, Dwarves are a formidable force. Their phalanxes, armed with axes and hammers, stand unyielding against foes, while their runesmiths invoke ancient powers to protect and empower.
Honor and Oaths. A Dwarf’s word is ironclad. Oaths and promises, once made, are held sacrosanct. This staunch sense of honor is both a strength, fostering deep trust and camaraderie, and a vulnerability, as breaking an oath can lead to lifelong shame.
Song of Stone and Steel. Music and song are integral to dwarven culture. Their ballads, echoing in deep caverns, speak of legendary battles, lost loves, and the eternal dance of pick and hammer against the heart of the world.
Deep Bonds. Dwarves form tight-knit communities, with bonds of friendship and kinship that endure through the ages. Their loyalty, once earned, is unbreakable.
Duergars
“Where darkness reigns and light is snuffed, beneath layers of stone and despair, the Duergar toil, their souls as gray as the subterranean shadows they inhabit.”
Born from a tragic schism, the Duergar are a reflection of their tormented past, hardened by the cruelties of the Underdark.
Ashen Kin. Duergar bear a similar stout form to their surface kin, but their skin is ashen, and their eyes adapted to the eternal gloom. Devoid of the usual dwarven vibrancy, their expressions often seem inscrutable, hiding pains and secrets.
Masters of the Deep. Skilled in mining the treacherous depths of the Underdark, Duergar unearth rare minerals and gems, forging them into weapons and items of dark significance. Their fortresses, though stark, are masterpieces of defensible architecture.
Mindscarred Legacy. Long ago, illithid enslavement marked the Duergar with a lasting taint. Though they eventually broke free, the scars remain, granting some among them psionic abilities but also instilling a deep-rooted paranoia and mistrust.
Soulsmiths and Shadowcrafters. Apart from their conventional crafting prowess, some Duergar channel their innate psionic energy to shape and imbue items with shadows, allowing for stealth and subterfuge.
Isolation and Ambition. While they value the strength in unity, Duergar are also fiercely individualistic, constantly striving for personal power and status within their rigid hierarchies.
Mistrustful Minds. The duergar’s traumatic history has made them wary of outsiders. Trust is a rare commodity, often earned only through significant deeds or shared adversity.
Invisible Warriors. On the battlefield, Duergar are known to harness their innate magic to grow in size or become invisible, catching their enemies off guard and turning the tide in their favor.
